Elizabeth McQueen
A lot of hipster rock bands are paying homage to the '70s and '80s these
days -- the Darkness, Interpol, the Bravery. Don't see too many singer/songwriters
doing that, though. Enter Elizabeth McQueen. The Austin singer's second
and latest CD, Happy Doing What We're Doing, is a bow to England's '70s
pub-rock scene. You do not know the word strange until you've heard McQueen
cover Elvis Costello, Squeeze, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds and, among others,
Dr. Feelgood (the band, not the bad Motley Crue song). Of course, McQueen's
a little on the weird side herself, which is why we like her.
9 p.m. Saturday. White Elephant Saloon. $5. (817) 624-1887.
